Review- Brusto Calligraphy papers

So here is my take on the calligraphy masters challenge held on 14th June 2018. although they gave a whole month to prepare and post it on Instagram. I ended up doing it just a few hours prior to the deadline. This article is not just about the challenge but basically a review for the new Brusto 175 GSM Calligraphy textured paper I tried it on.

It took me a while getting used to the new textured paper, in fact I wasted a lot of them, but at the end, I realized it is far better than the original drawing paper I used to use. It does not blot easily, the nib slides smoothly making upstrokes easy. One of the biggest problem faced by almost all calligraphers, the nib scratch, flakes of paper coming out on upstrokes, which I expected it to happen on the paper, mainly because of the textured effect it had, didn't happen. It passed that test too. It felt good when even after so many tries, none of the failed attempts were due to the paper being scratched along with the nib on the way of flourishing it.

Till date, I Have tried them with- the Nikko G, Zebra G, Brause ef, Brause blue pumpkin. Worked all good. With the Leonard EF principal Nib result was somewhat expected because the nib itself is too rough. It did scratch the paper.
The paint I used was Gouache Brilliant purple. I Tried with Camlin calligraphy ink and Daytone ink, it blots the paper. I feel its the ink problem rather than the paper, will review those too in my future posts.
